A long, smart read—not this newsletter, but the piece it's linking to

You know, when the first newsletter of the week is late, that never bodes well for the newsletters that follow. Very quickly, because I have to take Julia on a date:

Tech news website the Verge published a long endorsement of Kamala Harris—or more accurately, a long argument against voting for Donald Trump, and it's worth reading. It gets at something that has driven me nuts about him, which is that, all the Nazi-esque stuff aside, he is just very bad at getting things done. And even people who say they want less government—sometimes especially people who say they want less government—get upset when the government services they rely on aren't available. He is just not a dependable person, and he doesn't get better at things, because he hates learning and growing. I keep thinking it would be funny if a white nationalist group put out an anti-Trump ad—like, it would show him getting whupped at the debate by Harris, a woman of color, and a voiceover would say, "Is this the best the white race can do?" Maybe they wouldn't go so far as to endorse her, but the ad would make it clear that white nationalism was not putting its best foot forward.

And if you are still thinking about polls, Josh Marshall at TPM recommended a piece that does a good job of explaining the problem with polling at this moment in time.

The Fun Part

We're going to see Jenny Slate, so please enjoy this stupid video she and her best friend did like 15 years ago that my other, former wife and I used to watch all the time. It probably won't be as funny to you as it was to us back then, but I still hear "They're heavyyyy" in my mind all the time when I think about books. They are.
